7 Tips for Beating Jet Lag and Adjusting to the East Africa Time Zone

Travelling can be exciting, but it can also be exhausting.

The struggle to adjust to a new time zone, especially if there’s a significant time difference, can put a damper on your vacation or trip.

Not being able to sleep. Feeling tired and sluggish. Experiencing headaches.

These are just some of the symptoms of jet lag, and make it difficult to adjust to the time zone.

Fortunately, there are easy ways to combat jet lag and help your body adjust to a new time zone.

1. Plan Ahead

Prepare your body for this time zone by adjusting your sleep schedule a few days before your trip.

The time is GMT +3. If you are flying, try going to bed hours corresponding to this timezone each night.

If you are flying west, stay up an hour later. This will help your body acclimate to the new time zone faster.

2. Stay hydrated

Flying can be dehydrating, which can worsen jet lag symptoms.

Drink plenty of water before, during, and after your flight.

Avoid caffeine and alcohol, as both can dehydrate you and disrupt your sleep.

3. Sleep on the plane

Try to sleep on the plane to help your body adjust to the new time zone.

Wear comfortable clothing, bring a neck pillow, and a blanket or eye mask.

If you have trouble sleeping on a plane, consider taking a sleep aid like melatonin.

4. Get some sunlight

Sunlight is an important cue for your body’s internal clock.

Spend time outside during the day to help your body adjust to the new time zone.

If you arrive at your destination at night, avoid bright lights, as they can disrupt your sleep.

5. Follow the local schedule

As tempting as it may be to stay up late or sleep in, try to follow the local schedule as much as possible.

This will help your body adjust to the new time zone faster.

If you need to take a nap during the day, limit it to less than an hour.

6. Exercise

It can help you sleep better and adjust to the new time zone faster.

Try to get some exercise during the day, but avoid intense workouts close to bedtime.

7. Be patient

Finally, be patient and give your body time to adjust to the new time zone.

It may take a few days to feel like yourself again.

Don’t try to force yourself to sleep or stay awake if you’re not tired or wired.

In conclusion, jet lag can put a damper on your trip, but it doesn’t have to.

By following these tips, you can help your body adjust to this new time zone faster and enjoy your East Africa trip to the fullest.

Happy travels!
